How to install a wall mount for a curved TV: step-by-step guide

Mounting a TV to the wall for the first time can be a little confusing. To help you out, we’ve put together a quick guide below. If you’re more of a visual learner, we’ve also included a link to a how-to video produced by YouTube’s LRN2DIY.

Step one: Remove the stand from your TV

By default, your TV will have legs that support it while it’s sat in your living room. Mounting the TV to the wall with these legs dangling pointlessly will look a little odd, so grab a screwdriver and remove them from the base of your TV. If you’re unsure how to do this, check in with the instruction manual that came with your TV.

Step two: identify the wall mount points on the back of your TV

Next, you need to work out exactly how your new wall mount will attach to the back of your TV. Turn your TV around and take a look for yourself. You should see four holes that are arranged in a square shape.

In the example below, we’ve circled the mounting points in red. Your wall mount needs to grip to your TV via screws in these positions.

Step three: screw your bracket to the back of your TV

The process you need to work through here really depends on which bracket you’re using. Follow the manufacturer’s own instructions to make sure you don’t make any mistakes. But remember, don’t overtighten the screws on the back of the TV as this could cause the set to buckle under the pressure.

Step four: mark your wall

Most mounting kits consist of two parts: the bracket that attaches to your TV and the wall arm that you essentially ‘hook’ the TV over when it’s ready. Take your wall arm and mark the screw points on your wall. Secure it to your wall, following the manufacturers instructions every step of the way.

Note that most TV brackets need to be secured to a wooden beam that’ll live behind your wall.

Step five: connect the bracket with the wall arm

Now, you should have a bracket on your TV and the wall arm secured to your wall. Lift your TV up (you might need more than one person to do this) and connect the two pieces together. Again, the process here varies depending on the mounting kit you’re using.
