Sky Bet is growing in popularity, but you can’t use it outside the UK or Ireland. A VPN lets you bypass that restriction, but what if it fails? We’ve rounded up some fixes to try if Sky Bet isn’t working with your VPN.
To place bets from anywhere in the world, you need a VPN that can access region-locked content. A broken VPN is likely failing to disguise your location, so keep scrolling to see our list of fixes.
In this article:
Which VPNs work with Sky Bet?
Can I use Sky Bet outside the UK?
Yes, but you need a good VPN so Sky Bet doesn’t realise you’re outside the United Kingdom. The VPNs we’ve named on this page are a perfect fit and, if Sky Bet blacklists a server temporarily, they’re able to create a brand new one very quickly.
Why is Sky Bet not working with my VPN?
Sky Bet is a region-locked betting site designed for people in the UK. If Sky identifies your IP address and confirms that you’re not based in a supported country, the website will lock up. However, by using one of our VPNs, you’ll get a temporary IP address from the UK that lets you unlock Sky Bet from anywhere in the world.
Sky Bet fixes
1. Update your VPN
If you have an issue using Sky Bet outside of the UK or Ireland, ensure you’re using the most recent version of your go-to VPN.
- From a computer, go to your VPN Settings screen and look for an Update button. Restart your PC when it’s installed.
- From an Android, you can update your VPN using the Play Store. Check the update notes to see what’s new.
- From an iPhone, just open the App Store and tap on your user profile. From there, you can check for updates and tap the dropdown menu to see what’s new.
2. Swap to another server
We recommend disconnecting from your current server and trying another in the UK or Ireland for Sky Bet.
The exact steps for this change depending on the VPN service you’re using. If you’re using ExpressVPN, you can select the three dots to access a list of alternative servers within the same country.
3. Use Customer Support
The VPN services we’ve recommended below have customer support teams that can help with technical issues. If you’re experiencing difficulties using Sky bet outside of the UK or Ireland, don’t hesitate to reach out to them for help.
4. Reset your VPN
If switching servers didn’t fix the problem, completely uninstall your VPN, then reinstall it. After the reinstallation, open both your VPN and the betting site.
5. Speed test your internet
Disconnect from your wi-fi, reconnect and then try your VPN one more time. If that doesn’t help, you can perform a thorough reset by restarting your router.
We also recommend testing your internet with a free internet speed test such as Ookla – you can compare the results with your Internet Service Provider’s ‘minimum guaranteed speed’ promise.
More Sky Bet fixes:
Clear your cache and cookies. In Chrome, go to Settings > Privacy and security > Clear browsing data. If you’re using an Apple computer with Safari, go to Settings > Privacy > Manage Website Data.
Re-enter VPN username and password. Check if you’ve entered your VPN login details correctly. Incorrect credentials could be the reason Sky Bet isn’t working.
Check to see if you’ve been hit by a DNS leak. This means your typical IP address and location is visible to websites and apps, even if you’re running a VPN. Try the IP Address Lookup tool to see if your IP address swaps when you activate your VPN and visit Sky Bet. If not, your VPN is broken.
Check the VPN servers. If you can’t connect to a server, your provider might be to blame. The best providers (ExpressVPN, NordVPN, Ivacy and PureVPN) are clear about this.
Check your firewall allows VPNs. On Windows, open Windows Security > Allow an app through the firewall. On Mac, try System Settings > Network > Firewall.
